Food Safety Enhancement Act Passes in the House

I am pleased to report that an important bill, H.R. 2749, passed in the House of Representatives on Thursday, July 30. This bill was co-sponsored by Diana DeGette of Colorado, one of our most important allies in the fight to improve our nation’s food safety regulations.

When Congresswoman DeGette’s aid emailed me the news, I was thrilled. (It helps to have friends in high places.) Part of my mission in telling Chance’s story by writing this book is to be an advocate for improved food safety in order to protect our children.

Two important provisions of the bill were secured by Representative DeGette. These provisions give the FDA the authority and capacity to mandate a food recall and trace the source of outbreaks.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed as the bill now goes to the Senate. Please stay informed and tell your senators and representatives how strongly you feel about protecting our children’s safety by improving our food system.
