The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment issued a statement on June 18 urging Coloradans not to eat raw Nestle Toll House cookie dough due to possible E. coli 0157:H7 contamination. The CDPHE is advising consumers to not use this product for the time being.

This alert was brought to my attention by S.T.O.P. This organization was invaluable to Marti and me during Chance’s illness by providing us with information and support.

This story just appeared today in the Denver Post. Madison Sedbrook, 6, of Highlands Ranch, CO contracted E. coli after ingesting Nestle's raw regrigerated cookie dough. She was in Children's Hospital battling kidney complications just like Chance. Our hearts go out to the Sedbrook family and we wish her a speedy recovery. I just found this blog about food safety; the most recent entry speaks to the Nestle cookie dough recall. Hopefully, just like the author states, the FDA will soon have the power to mandate food recalls, instead of making them voluntary.
